Great apartment. Being able to share the story of staying where Jim Morrison of the Doors lived is a story we will cherish. Location was fantastic, easy walking distance to everything. Neighborhood was very safe. Will definitely stay here again. ~ Jennifer H

Beautiful, beautiful area! Very charming. Cheri is very personable and was a delightful host. I was worried about booking a place online, but the grounds and apartment are even more gorgeous than the photos. ~ Kevin K

This is a great fully furnished one bedroom condo just south of the strip. It is gate guarded 24 hours a day and the neighbors are very friendly. We stayed for two months and really had no complaints at all. I highly recommend this place for your next visit. ~ Dean P

Cheri has put together a really beautiful place to stay. All the foliage and carved stone decorations make a really lovely environment, the series of painted wrought-iron gates provide both aesthetic appeal and a sense of privacy. My fiance and I stayed in the Hawaiian Hut for a week - I was worried it would be very small and cramped as the pictures make it look like a hallway, but Cheri (or her decorator) have done a superb job of utilizing the space in a way that makes it feel roomy and comfortable. The location is about half an hour out of LA via Route 101. This appears to be one of the more affluent suburbs. Cheri was very nice, we finally ran into each other on our third day and she let me use her own laundry in her kitchen since the new coin-op washer set she'd just purchased for guests turned out to need another part to work. Her tiny little dog DJ (who stays indoors) was very vocal about that arrangement - the poor thing seemed torn apart between the frantic puppy desire to go meet new people and nervousness about actually getting close enough for petting. The spectacular gas grill was, unfortunately not functional while we were there - I believe some former guests had pretty thoroughly clogged up the burner units with charred grease and Cheri mentioned calling a bbq equipment company to fix it. The weather was too cold for us to enjoy the waterfall swimming pool, but the jacuzzi was very nice and frothy on a cool night. We had a couple friends over for a small bbq (with a charcoal grill) and the outdoor space there has everything you could want for that situation - very nice, and I'd recommend it to anyone. ~ Grady G

Appartamento molto carino e accogliente in zona comodissima (West Hollywood),tranquilla, centrale, ben servita e molto bella. L'unica pecca dell'appartamento è il bagno, è un pò troppo piccolo e la vasca non è esattamente nuova. ~ Gary G

This was just a great find, in an "upper-scaled" Woodland Hills neighbor. Convenient freeway access, great location for our needs, and not to mention a great price for being dog friendly . Cheri's Place is like a retreat within the city. We enjoyed the spa in the evening, and Cheri's topical backyard for relaxation. The private backyard at the Unit was a plus for our dogs. We defiantly will be back to enjoy more time at Cheri's place. ~ Lori W

We had a great time staying here! The apt is beautifully decorated, clean, and very comfortable. Great location as well. Check in was very easy. We definently would love to stay here again next time we visit LA. This was my first time using airbnb. Very impressed. Thanks!! Jina B

It's a lot of fun to stay at a place with an amazing history like this place instead of a hotel. We came here for my brother's birthday trip, and it definitely added a lot of interest and an additional story to the trip. The place was great in terms of space since my brother is single (he took the guest room) and I was with my boyfriend (we took the master bedroom). Some tips/notes about the place: - The apartment is a small part of a larger building, so pay attention to which door you're trying to walk into. We almost accidentally tried to unlock the wrong door. Oops! :) There is another door with a similar address, but the one you want is the one marked "1/2" at the end! - Each bedroom connects to the same bathroom, so be prepared for paying attention to locking doors (so you don't accidentally walk in on each other). The bathroom is very small and the shower curtain is very gaudy, but with a toilet, bath, and sink, you pretty much have all you need, so you should be fine. I'd recommend bringing your own toiletries. - There is another 1/2 bath in the living room (also small) in case you need it. - The home definitely has that old vintage feel with retro furniture, and the tiling and flooring. The couch and recliner is very cushiony and comfortable. The TV is small, but you probably shouldn't need to use it anyway. There are Jim Morrison and The Doors posters everywhere. - The fridge is very small so don't expect to pack a feast into there. :) There is a massive retro stove, and the cupboard is filled with cups and plates and things that you may need. - While some aspects of the apartment are very small, you will have plenty of space in the living room/dining room area to hang out and tell stories. - You'll easily hear the music blasting from other people staying in the building as you walk around outside and up to your door. You can also hear some things in other parts of the house, but the bedrooms were pretty quiet, so you should be fine sleeping comfortably. - It is very possible you will not meet the owner; she rents this place (along with some other places) out to guests who need it, but it's not like your typical AirBnB welcoming situation where she is a host that greets you with a handshake and a key, and makes you breakfast. The key is in a lockbox and you pretty much let yourself in and don't ever really meet the person. Depending on what you're looking for, this could be fantastic for privacy. - The WiFi works best in the living room area. There are only a few outlets that have three prongs. - You absolutely MUST have a car if you're looking to get out and about, outside the area. We had a very difficult time getting around by taxi and public transportation (which we're used to from living in SF). But you will have places in the area you can go eat at and hang out at. We ended up walking down to the grocery store and making food at the home in most cases. If you are without a car, but you have an iPhone, TaxiMagic is pretty handy. - Apparently the owner has some Hollywood history as well, which you can find out about in the binder she left for you in which she mentions her book you can buy and she even has some historic items from the place for sale if you're into that kind of thing. Basically, to sum it all up, don't come here looking for concierge service, or hospitality. But, if you're like us, and you just wanted a cool interesting place to stay with a history and a place to rest your head, then this place is definitely one you should try out. Wayne H

We had a meeting in LA and this was actually a really affordable spot for 2 people (2 separate rooms). The place is taken care of, things are clean, towels are plenty and soft. Also communication is great. The one and only issue we had was with the wireless internet. We're a tech company so we really needed a good connection and it was very intermittent. So we had to go to the local coffee shop most of the time. Overall, however, I do recommend it, the history/nostalgia is the main draw for most I'm sure. James R

Really enjoyed my 3 night stay at the Jim Morrison apartment. Great location and nice to stay in a home like setting versus a boring hotel room. Of course, if you're expecting a pristine, hotel-like environment, this is not your place. Bathroom is on the small side, but clean and usable. The whole complex was very quiet. I recommend the place for a unique LA stay. Jeff M

We found this house on the internet when I googled "unique places to stay in L.A." Our son and his wife live there and we wanted to do something fun and different with them. They are musicians and we had taken them to Paris a couple of years ago and visited Jim Morrison's grave. It was a very cool experience for all of us. So, we knew the house would be a throw back from the 70s and decorated as such and we always know what to expect in L.A. as far as house expectations but this was a very clean house in a nice neighborhood with ambiance. We would strongly recommend it to anyone wanting to stay somewhere unique, safe and clean. Cheri was an excellent host with a very interesting past and eager to share it. So, meeting her was also a pleasure and added to our stay. Mary Rose A

Just wanted to say thank you very much for this beautiful place and the perfect arrangements for our recent ... visit at Holywood Loft it was an awesome experience that Our friends and former batchmates meet and conviniently enjoy the accomodation,.. again thank Cheri Wood for the warm welcome , we will definitely looking forward to have another event again... we love the place Dave D

My friend and I were working on a project tangentially tied to Morrison, so when we noticed his apartment for rent we grabbed it for the weekend. The number of Doors posters was a bit over the top and as a casual fan I think it might be more interesting if the place were closer in appearance/decor to how it would have been when he actually lived there. The apartment was nice and clean, very easy to find and in a good location for heading out in to the rest of LA. Cheri and her assistant were both helpful and friendly. Damaris J

Really enjoyed my stay! The room had a nice sized kitchen area and I had a hard time getting up from the bed because it was so cozy and comfortable. Cheri was extrememly personable and runs a top notched establishment. Be advised there is a cleaning fee (not included in the room rate) and also late check in fees. Wish I would have arrived sooner to take advantage of the jacuzzi and pool. I highly recommend this as a great get away :) C R C

Nestled in the tropical greenery of a serene, private setting in the gated community of Calabasas, the Hollywood Loft is the perfect retreat for a most relaxing experience in Woodland Hills. Cheri is a gracious, congenial hostess and Belinda (her assistant) went above and beyond to put me at ease and to make me feel comfortable. The interior of the loft itself is reminiscent of a celebrity setting one might observe on a movie set, while at the same time allowing the guest to feel right at home. The high ceilings, elegant chandelier and art deco furnishings along with nostalgic memorabilia of glamorous days gone by was enchanting and left me with a genuine sense of excitement and anticipation about exploring all of Hollywood and everything that it has to offer. After my stay I couldn't help but wonder about another of Cheri's listings, the immaculately preserved apartment of the late musical celebrity Jim Morrison of "The Doors". We chatted extensively about his life and the shroud of mystery surrounding his unexplained disappearence... I decided that I just had to spend one more evening there, even at $200 a night! I'm really glad I did, as it was just like drifting back in time to the living space of this gifted young man who left us too soon. The kitchen, dining area, and rooms appeared exactly as if though he had maybe taken a walk with his dog, or went out to run an errand... I had my acoustic guitar with me and strummed it in his living room for a while that night; really got the vibes of the place and Jim's presence there... it was very cool! Excellent experience overall, thanks Cheri!. Amber V

I was very pleased with our stay at the Hawaiian Hut - especially the wonderful outdoor setting and the adorable wading pool was perfect for the kids. Although I was not the perfect guest (I arrived much later than planned), Cheri's property manager was there to greet me and helped me quite a bit with directions, etc. We would definitely stay here again - it is a MUCH better option than a hotel if you desire privacy and a "home-like" feel with a fun vacation theme. ************************************************************************
The tiny apartment is dated - to a die-hard Doors fan, that may be a plus. The unit sleeps 8 - theoretically. We managed because we read the reviews and brought along our own air mattress. The mattress inside the pull out couch in the living room is unusable. If you are 8, carry an air mattress and be sure you are willing to sleep 3 on the master bed. If you are 8 and you are traveling in one vehicle - you will not be able to park it on the premises. We had two vehicles, only one could park and required extreme dexterity through a constricted passage with side mirrors folded in. Public parking is non existent and a big problem. If you love the Doors & Jim Morrison - you should spend some time here, it will feel like being in the '70s! We like the Doors - but his apartment fell short of expectations in 2011. Cindy R

My son was moving to CA to begin his career after graduation. My husband and I were going to help him find an apartment and move in. We were staying for almost 2 weeks which is quite expensive for a hotel stay. For the first time, I tried to find a rental in order to save some money. Cheri was extremely helpful in answering the many questions I had regarding our stay, places to visit and even offered discount coupons she had collected. The neighborhood is safe and quiet, the grounds and patio areas are beautiful and serene. We enjoyed the fire pit and making s'mores at night...amazingly, there are no mosquitoes! If you are planning on staying in the Hawaiian Hut you need to be aware that there is no air conditioning in that unit. Cheri's lofts do have their own air condition control. We had to buy a fan and leave our screen door open to try to get some cool air into our room. (There is no window for a cross breeze) I was so hot each night that we finally ended up leaving the last four days, so I could get some sleep. You need to make sure that you are aware of the rules in detail. Remember that this is a non-refundable purchase! You need to make sure to have your deposit and cleaning fee in hand upon entering. I am a rule follower, so this was not a problem for me, but others need to make sure you follow these rules. You also need to understand that this is not a hotel...you do not get enough towels, toilet paper, kleenex or soap for your stay (unless it's a weekend stay.) You must wash your own towels during certain times that Cheri is available and no one else is using the washer/dryer. This posed a problem for us, since we were gone all day! Cheri offered us a few more towels, but was not enough for our extended stay. Fortunately, we had friends who stayed in a hotel and they lent us towels that we returned each day. If you plan to hang out and relax on her patio instead of sight-seeing, you will not have a problem. Cheri has a fascinating life story and is very friendly. She offers a tour of her home for $20 per person and wrote a book, that can be purchased and autographed for $25 which included one home tour ticket...it's worth it! If you are aware of these details, it will be helpful in making your decision as to whether or not to stay in the Hawaiian Hut! I would definitely choose the loft if you need air conditioning, like I did! Cheri was looking into adding a unit in the hut. ~ Ibrahim E

Pros: great location for the house, clean house, very comfortable bedding. Cons: house does not sleep 8, at most you can fit 6 in it, this was a major issue for us as we had to get hotel rooms to sleep the rest of our party. Also, the parking space is very difficult to reach (we had a large van which obviously did not fit) and so we had to find street parking which is not easy to do. Overall, great house for the fans and those in smaller parties. ~ Jennifer N

The experience:I was really nervous about reserving accomodations this way and staying on private property as I have NEVER done this before and I don't know anyone else who has. Cheri kept in communication with me as well as Airbnb through e-mails as our arrival date neared. That heled to put me at ease. The property:The place was beautiful!! I really enjoyed my stay and I hate that I really didn't get to enjoy the grounds like I wanted to because our days were scheduled full of activities.Unfortunately, Cheri was not there so I didn't get to meet her. Our family rented all three properties so that even made it better. For the price you really coouldn't complain. My husband and I stayed in a loft. My sister and her family stayed in the adjoining one. My ( grown )daughters stayed in the hut. There was one small issue that I handled with Cheri directly that would not effect my opinion of Cheri's place. I hope to be saying there again on future visits to L.A. Diana B

My stay with my two kids at the Hollywood Loft was a wonderful experience and an incredible deal. The Loft was a beautiful two story space, nicely furnished and comfortably laid out -- perfect as a romantic get away and for a family stay. My kids especially loved the Hollywood posters and artwork and my 13 year old son especially appreciated the Betty Page themed and decorated shelving unit in the bathroom. The grounds were beautiful with a terraced patio, nice tile work, ceramic pots with a very chic So.Cal./Mediterranean vibe. The hot tub felt great after a long day of playing tourist. Two definite thumbs up. Joe B

This was a good little place for our group to stay. Great location and fresh sheets. The Jim Morrison oriented guest book is a rare treasure. We've talked about staying there again when we're in town. Two beds and the sofa sleep five comfortably. Room for a couple air mattresses. Donnisha J

Overall Rating: Recommended, will stay again. There are two Loft Units and a guest house on-site. I stayed in both the loft units during my three weeks stay. Except the style of decoration both units are identical. Pro's: - Independent, secured and spacious units. - Access to Jacuzzi and Pool, BBQ. - Private, nice and spacious backyard in each unit. - Clean and Nice Bed. - Nice neighborhood - Plenty of towels provided. Con's: - Very thin wall between two units. - A noisy neighbor kept me up all-night twice during three weeks. - There is no kitchen / Cooking facility (There is a hot plate, though in one unit). - Dishes has to be washed in the bathroom sink as that is the only sink available. Points to note: - Additional Cleaning Fee of $50 per stay, to be paid at Check-in. - $100 Refundable deposit at Check-in - $25 late check-in fees after 9 PM. ~ Madhvi B

I stayed at Cheri's Hawaiian Hut for one night in order to attend a friend's wedding. It was just exactly what I needed at a great price. The bed was very comfortable, the room was quiet and pleasant and just small enough to feel cozy. The property grounds were very nice indeed, and I enjoyed playing with Cheri's dog. I'd stay again next time I'm in Los Angeles. Thank you, Cheri! ~ Jeff T

All in all, we had a nice experience. We were greeted by Cheri and given advice on local hot spots and eateries, then given our keys. The place is quiet and removed from the main driving areas, but close enough to everything either via streets or freeways to make its seclusion a non-issue. The only issue I had (the reason for 4 stars, not 5) is that while we were promised access to wi-fi internet access and cable television, we experienced a strange interruption in service that lasted most of one day of our stay. There was also quite a large (refundable) security deposit required at check in that I wasn't expecting (at the time I made my reservation, the security deposit wasn't mentioned anywhere). I'd recommend this place if you don't mind not being in the middle of everything or driving to where you're going. The quiet and seclusion were a perfect setting for our mini-vacation ;) ~ Ann C

Extraordinary person with professional service:) She is so kind that you don't want to look for a crap to complain:) Nice place with everything inside:) Nice big TV, fast wireless internet, great shower head, nice refrigerator, very clean towels and bed shits:) Oh and it's very safe. She got couple of gates to go until the room. I missed LA breeze so I slept the doors opened every night:) Before I left she show me her loft which is for rent too. It is very very nice:) I will go for that one next time:) ~ Gary H

We recently spent 10 days at Cheri's guest and loved every minute of it. The house itself is spacious and offers everything you need for a short break or holiday. The grounds which include a pool and hot tub are in outstanding condition and we found them an ideal way to relax after a day at the beach or sight seeing. Its closely situated to the freeways and we found it easy to travel to most places. Cheri herself was lovely and could not be more helpful with directions, recommending places to eat or see. Would definitely recommend to anyone planning a trip to LA. Nenyi Q

Cheri was a lovely hostess very welcoming and warm. We loved staying in the loft guest house, very cosy and original. Cheri knew alot about the area and the selection of tokens very thoughtful. I HAVE JUST LEFT CHERIS PLACE AND WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT TO EVERYONE. I WAS NERVOUS AT FIRST BECAUSE OF SOME VERY ERRORNOUS REVIEWS THAT WERE POSTED BUT I WAS VERY IMPRESSED WITH THE BOTH THE PLACE AND MY HOSTESS. I THINK THE GIRL WHO POSTED THE BAD REVIEW ABOUT THE SHEETS BEING USED NEEDS TO NOT STAY ANYWHERE ELSE IF SHE THINKS THEY BUY NEW SHEETS FOR EVERY GUEST.OF COURSE THE SHEETS ARE USED BUT THEY SMELLED HEAVENLY.ALSO THE MAN WHO POSTED ABOUT THE NOISE, I WAS WAITING FOR MY MIDNIGHT SURPRISE AND NEVER HEARD A PEEP THE WHOLE 5 DAYS. THESE REVIEWS ARE MEANT TO BE HELPFUL FOR FELLOW TRAVELORS NOT HURTFUL FOR PERSONAL REASONS. I GIVE CHERI 5 STARS AND WILL DEFINITLEY BE BACK. ~ Catie L

Cheri was quick to respond to our last-minute reservation. When technical difficulties prevented me from altering the reservation to account for an unforeseen change in the apartment's availability, she went the extra mile and contacted airbnb to set things straight. Check-in was automatic (through the use of keypads), quick, and painless. The place was clean and spacious, and tastefully decorated with Doors paraphernalia. It is also conveniently located within walking distance to the Hollywood Squares and Sunset Boulevard. Note that there are no three pronged outlets in the common rooms (due to the age of the apartment), so if you bring something that requires a ground, be sure to bring adapters. I remember that the guest room and the kitchen have three-pronged outlets; I'm not sure about the master bedroom. I would absolutely recommend Cheri as a host, and this place as a nice place to stay in LA, especially if you are a fan of The Doors! ~ Omid M
